Mar 20, 2020·Grade 1 and 2 soft tissue sarcomas have low metastatic potential (<15-20%) and grade III tumors have high metastatic potential (up to 40-50%). Mitotic index (aka mitotic count) is predictive of survival. To maximize the likelihood of a positive outcome, soft tissue sarcomas should be widely and deeply resected to achieve “clean margins.”
Soft tissue trauma is generally understood to be any damage that is causing symptoms such as pain, but that do not involve the bone or skin. As dogs are often quite active and athletic, this type of injury is relatively common and usually resolves completely in all …
Jul 01, 2020·When dogs have oral injuries, it is often because of something they were eating or trying to chew on. Bones, antlers, and hooves can cause injuries to the teeth, gums, tongue, and other soft tissue. Bones can become lodged around the lower jaw and canine teeth. Even chewing on sticks and twigs can result in an injury.
Jun 26, 2015·Soft tissue trauma, sometimes charted by veterinarians as STT, is a common term used in dogs to describe injuries that cause symptoms such as pain but have no obvious skin lacerations or bone fractures. Muscles are responsible for movement of the body as well as body support. Tendons are tough fibrous tissue that connect the muscles to the bones.

Depending on the severity of the injury or Grade of the strain or sprain repair can take from as little as 1 week to several months. The scar tissue laid down whilst successfully binding the soft tissue fibres lessens its flexibility as it tightens the area of tissue and this can have the affect of seeming to age a dog overnight.

Soft tissue sarcomas are very invasive into the surrounding normal tissue, and the tumor is usually larger than what is visible or palpable. As a group, these tumors have a relatively low metastasis rate to other organs, but this rate is dependent on the histologic grade of the tumor. Grade I and II tumors have a less than 20% chance of spreading.

The metastatic risk for a grade I tumor is about 5-10%, for a grade II tumor is about 20%, and for a grade III tumor is about 40-50%. MTD chemotherapy is offered to dogs with grade III STS. Doxorubicin is often chosen. However, the current evidence to use doxorubicin in dogs with high grade STS does not show a survival advantage.
